Audition Information for ROCK OF AGES & WORKING!  

Madison Theatre Guild / OUT!Cast Theatre's Spring Musicals

 

  • Auditions will be Monday & Tuesday, November 13 & 14, 2017 – 7 pm to 10 pm at the Bartell Community Theatre, 113 East Mifflin Street, Madison, WI.  If you can't attend either date, contact the producer (jim.chiolino@madisontheatreguild.org). 
  • Callbacks, if needed, will be Wednesday, November 15th, 7 pm to 10 pm, also at the Bartell.
  • You may audition for one or both shows.  You will not be cast in both.  MTG/OUT!Cast will cast you in only one of these two productions.

Play Description: Rock of Ages is a jukebox musical built around classic rock songs from the 1980s.  The musical features hits from such bands as Styx, REO Speedwagon, Bon Jovi, Pat Benatar, and Twisted Sister.

Play Description: Nominated for six Tony Awards, including Best Score, WORKING features songs by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton), Stephen Schwartz (Pippin, Wicked), and James Taylor. Based on Studs Terkel’s best-selling book, Working celebrates our search for meaning and satisfaction in the daily grind. This down-to-earth yet elevating musical is woven from funny and poignant interviews of twenty-six real American workers. You’ll meet a schoolteacher, millworker, waitress, mason, and stay-at-home mom (to name just a few), who share not only their daily routines, but their hopes and aspirations as well.

Seeking 6 adult singing actors of various ages who can play multiple characters ranging in age from 20 to 70.  We encourage people from all identities and backgrounds to audition.

There are 14 musical numbers including solos, group, & ensemble numbers.  9-10 songs per cast member.  Characters to be assigned based on cast chosen & how their voices best complement the songs.

Rehearsals for WORKING will start Sunday, February 18, 2018, and will be Sundays – Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at the MTG Firehouse, 2410 Monroe Street, Madison.  Contact the Director, Cindy Severt, with any questions (cindysevert@gmail.com).

What to Prepare

Please complete the attached audition form and the appropriate conflict calendar(s).

For ROCK OF AGES, please prepare up to 32 bars up-tempo rock. For WORKING, please prepare up to 32 bars traditional musical theater ballad. Prepare both pieces if you plan to audition for both shows. Bring sheet music for accompanist. Background tracks and acapella will not be permitted. Actors will be asked to memorize and perform group dance choreography, and read a short selection from the script. These selections (sides) will be provided at the auditions. Dress to move. Be prepared to list your scheduling conflicts.

Casting Decisions:  Casting decisions will be made as soon as possible.  Please be patient.  We will contact everyone by phone or e-mail.  In addition, the cast lists will be posted on the Madison Theatre Guild website shortly after people are notified.
